i am looking for an agritourismo near Siena that can accomodate a family of four and has rentals by the night. We will probably be staying for three nights total. A pool for the kids would be an added benefit as would cooking classes. Any suggestions?

Il Canto del Sole www.ilcantodelsole.com It's recommended in Rick's book and get great reviews at Trip Advisor. They have a saltwater swimming pool, game room and bike rentals.

Il Mulino di Quercegrossa is 5 km north of Siena on the Chianti Highway. It has 6 or 7 linked swimming pools, including a "river' with current which is really fun. We stayed one night there, in the family room/apartment which accommodates four in two sleeping rooms. We all loved the pools, and I would happily return. http://www.mulinodiquercegrossa.it/

Agri Borgo Sicelle, 13 miles from Siena (between Siena and Firenze). Wonderful lo-cost apts, pool, game room, awesome views, great owners, restaurant across the street. About 1/2 mile off the freeway in Castellina in Chianti. Check out the reviews in Trip advisor. Our huge apt only cost us $65 EU/nite.

Second vote for Il Canto Del Sole. It is about 12kms south of Siena. We stayed there in June and it was fantastic. They have a huge salt water pool, game room, and really great food.

Lola, what's the price range of the rooms/appts. at that agriturismo? I don't like it when there's no information on price to be found on the website and I have no idea if I'm wasting my time on researching something that is out of my budget.

Beatrix - It is good to remember that Agritourismo are small Mom and Pop operations and not part of a name hotel chain. Their web sites can be rudimentary. They do not always provide as much information sometimes as you would like. If there is a recommendation from RS Helpline, you have a very good chance of at least a moderately priced accommodation. Please email the contact to get the pricing information you need.
