Spending one night in Agrigento in June on the way to eastern parts of Sicily. Does anyone have suggestions for a quiet hotel near the Temples?
Yes, definitely stay near the Temples and not the city. We stayed at the Colleverde Park Hotel and enjoyed it.
We stayed at B&B Villa San Marco. It’s a half mile down a dirt road that you get onto by the Archaeological Museum and fuel station and couldn’t be quieter. When we stayed there it offered a couple different dinner options and one ate dinner while looking at the temples.
Upon arrival we took a walk over to Temple of Vulcano (Hefestos) and on the way back we somehow ended up in Giardino della Kolymbethra. The following day we walked through an olive grove to reach the temples.
We tried to reserve the hotel Suki mentioned but it was fully booked six months prior to our trip.
We actually enjoyed staying in the city at Terraze di Monteluza. It was very quiet there. Francesco, whose family has owned the palazzo for generations, is a wonderful host. Breakfast on the terrace was excellent, and there is a very good restaurant a short walk away for dinner. Valley of the Temples is a short, easy drive. Highly recommend.
Will you have a car? If so, there are some wonderful small B&Bs but car is needed.
