Agrigento-PMO-FCO

Starting in Agrigento, my flight from Palermo's airport to Rome is just after noon. Is it smart to spend that last night in Agrigento and train/bus it to PMO? Or would you suggest going back to Palermo (where I was for 4 nights before Agrigento)? or staying near PMO airport? I don't have a connecting flight in Rome - still have another month in my 'happy place'! TIA!!!!

I think it is best to be in the city you are flying out of and not be trying to get there the day of the flight. You could get stuck in traffic, delayed by a strike or have some sort of rail hiccup.

In other words, I would get closer to your flight back to Rome. Unless you don’t care if you miss your flight which you may not as you drink your beverage of choice, eat cannoli and arancini, and marvel at the Greek ruins. :)

Can you arrange your travels so that all your days in Palermo are at the the end?

Otherwise I would be inclined to take the last train the day before back to Palermo.

How many more flights are there if you miss your noonish flight that could be an alternative?

If you are stuck in Palermo an extra day, how badly are your plans disrupted?

Once you are back in Palermo you will have another hour by train at least to the airport.

I would go the evening before but even better would be to put all your nights in Palermo at the end as others have suggested.

Thank you all for the responses! My schedule is - Palermo for 4 nights, Agrigento for 2 or 3, then meeting a group of friends in Rome for a monthlong visit (first time for them, 19th for me - it never gets boring). This is 5 months out, so adaptations are still possible. Heck, I've already changed my plane ticket, one VRBO reservation, one hotel reservation, added time in Sorrento (I LOVE Sorrento!), and changed my seat selections on the transatlantic flights. But, I don't like to live dangerously, so I will adjust my schedule for Palermo and Agrigento. Grazie tanto! Ciao!
