Afternoon day trip from Florence to Pisa

Hi all
We are arriving in Florence around 2:00 pm and planning to go to Pisa around 3:00 0'clock.I am looking at Raileurope site and the last train leaves Pisa at 2:54.
Would you please tell me which site sells later tickets?
Would that be a good idea to go that late?
any thoughts?
Thanks

Luvtrips,
You may check train schedules on Trenitalia.com

Where are you arriving from? You may consider stopping in Pisa en-route to Florence, depending on where you're coming from, and you may leave your luggage at the Pisa train station.

You'll need the train stations in Italian when using Trenitalia's website:
Florence = Firenze S.M. Novella
Pisa = Pisa Centrale

Enjoy!

Edited to add:
If you plan to go up on the leaning tower, make sure you book your tickets in advance, to avoid waiting in a possibly long queue.

As Priscilla said, use the Trenitalia website for trains in Italy. If all you want to do is see the tower, Pisa-San Rossore is the closest station to the Field of Miracles but most trains to that station involve a change at Pisa Centrale anyway.

I'm curious how you are arriving in Florence (train? plane?) and from where? As she mentioned, depending on where you're coming from it's possible to save a lot of time doing Pisa en-route to Florence.

Most trains from Florence to Pisa are regional trains that never sell out. There's no need to buy these tickets from any website. They can be purchased upon arrival in Florence or you could purchase them at the train station in your previous city. If buying "in advance" at another train station and not buying them same-day, verify that they're issued for the correct day of travel. You might want to buy your return tickets from Pisa at the same time, just don't validate them until shortly before boarding.

By going to Pisa later in the day, you should avoid the busiest part of the tourism day. Validate your plans by verifying the closing times of the sites you want to see (sites close earlier off-season). There are frequent trains back to Florence until the last departure at 10:30pm.

We are going from Siena to Florence by train on August 30, check in to our hotel and then heading for Pisa.
The last time slot for Pisa is 9:30 pm.
we are planning to get the 7:30 slot so we'll see the sunset from the tower too,if they let us to stay there long enough.
then head back to Florence .

Luvtrips,

we are planning to get the 7:30 slot so we'll see the sunset from the tower too,if they let us to stay there long enough.

As I recall, only 20 -30 persons are allowed to go up the tower at a time, and once you teach the top, one is only allowed a few minutes, enough to take a few photos, then everyone is asked to go down. You will not be allowed to linger as long as you desire, because the next group can't go up, till the former group comes down!

We used the Centrale train station..... its a long ol hike from there to field of miracles. Use san rossare if you can manage it.... and do not scoff at the cluster of tourist snack shops near the tower....not a durn thing was open (and therefore no restrooms) on that long hike back to Centrale. Did i mention that it w as a lo ng walk?
