After Rome Where To

We are staying in Rome for the 1st 3 days of our trip then are deciding whether to visit Abruzzi or Apulia. We love the countryside and wine regions. We then plan on going to the Dalmatian Coast either Dubrovnik or Split where we will rent a car and drive up to Ljubljana and Bled. From Bled we will take a train back to Munich and home. Any suggestions of things to not miss or helpful hints and places to stay or eat. Thanks, Eva

Eva, that's one heck of an itinerary. And, how much time have you budgeted for Croatia? Last summer was our first trip to Dalmatia - 9 days. Dubrovnik, Trogir (an afternoon in Split), Rovinj, and Motovun (Istria). Istria may be a bit of course for Bled but there's lots o' wine there and small towns. Rovinj is popular and lots going on - the city is one BIG art gallery. Trogir is smaller but lovely on every street. And, don't rush Dubrovnik. It's compact and special; sure it's crowded in the peak seasons but with all of its beauty who wouldn't want to visit.
Ciao.
