We will be in Venice next May. It is our first visit to Venice so of course, St Marks and Doge's Palace on the must see list. Really want to avoid crowds as much as possible saw Walks of Italy After Hours Tour from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Has anyone actually done this tour after hours? The promise is you are virtually "alone" just a limited amount of tour groups allowed entry. Pretty pricey at $156. We would be interested if it is "as billed". Thanks! Love the forum! Karen Sortino
Karen, just in case no one responds here are Trip Advisor reviews of WOI tours in Venice, some of which are specific to the tour you're looking at:
While I haven't done it myself, "Walks of Italy" has a stellar reputation for conducting quality tours so I would expect this one to deliver on value for the price.
Hi Karen. My family and I took the Walks of Italy after hours tour of St. Marks (but not the Doges Palace) during our 2016 trip. I also waffled about spending the money for this tour but do not regret it. We were a group of six and there were only two additional people in our group. There were a few other groups led by other Walks of Italy guides but we were far enough apart that it truly did feel like we had the basilica to ourselves, and we enjoyed the commentary from our guide.
Enjoy your trip!
Thank you so much Fran, very helpful. So nice to get guidance from those who done things!! Greatly appreciated!
We did the Walks of Italy after hours tour of St. Mark's (not the Doge's Palace) in 2015, and it was fantastic! There were about 10 in our group, and there was one other group in the cathedral at the same time. The best part was the freedom and visibility. I sat on a chair and leaned back until I was almost prone, and stared at the ceiling until I felt like I was swimming in gold mosaic. I had been before, but it was so crowded that I could hardly stop, let alone veg out. The only drawback was that we were on a schedule, so even though our guide ( who was very good) gave us as much time as she could, we had to follow the group through the building (they wouldn't let me nap in the narthex :) ). I would do it again, especially if I was with someone who had never been.
THANKS!!!
