Has anyone had any experience dropping off a car at the Hertz or Avis office in Chiusi before/after opening hours? I've done that sort of thing here in the states and in Switzerland with no problems, but not in Italy. The office opens fairly late and I'd love to catch an early train up to Venice.
I have dropped cars outside of office hours in Bologna and Malpensa. Car rental offices usually have a garage where you can leave the car and a key drop to leave your key and papers. I take pictures of the car from all angles, just in case there is a dispute about its condition but have never had problems.
Sorry this doesn't directly report on the situation in Chiusi, but I hope it is of some help.
Marcus, The rental office we dropped off at, opened at 8 am. It was only a short distance form the train station, but the walk was on a very busy highway which would not be safe. If I remember correctly, the schedule to venice really didn't start till mid morning anyway. We toured the etruscan ruins and tombs the day before, and found the rental office in the process. It made the next morning a breeze. The youmg lady even had a cab for us. Good luck. Jeff
We actually dropped the car off while everyone was at lunch b/t 12-2 b/c of a chain we were catching. I left the keys under the front floor mat and everything worked out fine. As for the walk, it is along a highway and not very pedestrian friendly. Early should be ok though.
It was the avis office where we dropped the car.
