We will be in Venice this month and have read all about crowds, pick pockets etc.
If I understand correctly an after hour
( since I read it closes at 5:00 except for private tours) skip the line type tour cuts out crowds and gives opportunity to see basilica lit up. Can anyone please confirm and recommend a tour company to book with. Thank you!
Walks of Italy offers an after hours tour. We are taking it the end of May so I can’t comment on how good it is. But I understand that all their tours are good. We are also taking two of their tours in Rome.

phyllis, this is your first post on this board. Do you want to say a little more about your travel plans? The size of your party? Where you are staying in Venice? I hope you are not planning to spent a large amount of money for a private tour because of misplaced generalized fear about pickpockets. You can get some general hints on European travel from our host's Travel Tips menu top left of the newsboard.
Having taken the night tour of St. Marks two years ago, I actually believe that i got more out of it on my third visit to St. Marks, over 35 years. There is so much to see that you don't know what to look at, and your time is limited on the special tour. It is an other-worldly experience to see that grand space privately, but I'm not inclined to say that it is worth your money right now, and on short notice.
Thank you so much!
