after Florence, Verona, and Venice

We are going to Italy the last week in November, first week December. The first week we are in Florence including wine tour with Sienna and San Giamogno (sp)and maybe day trip to Lucca. then one night in Verona and 2 in Venice. We then have two nights to go somewhere else. We are travelling by train. Our flight home is from Florence. I don't know whether going to Rome would be too much. Other ideas were Cinque Terre,or Assisi or other hill towns but we are really open to suggestions. This is just my husband and I. Thanks

I would consider adding one night to Venice and one to Verona. I think that Rome is too far.

I find our trips much more enjoyable when we spend 3 nights in one place. If you can't fit 3 (or at least 2) nights in Rome into your first week, plan another trip soon. You will be missing so much.

Assisi is great, but not as easy to get to near the end of your trip. I would recommend at least 2 nights in Cinque Terre if you fit this into your trip. Our recent trip in September included an overnight in Verona (arrived around 1:00PM and departed around 3:00PM the next day)and that worked out great.

I personally recommend adding more time in Venice. Please consider Albergo Guerrato (in Rick's book) You will love the staff and location (at the Rialto Market). I hope you considered flying home from Venice as Rick recommends "open jaw" travel. You would gain more time in Venice and probably would save money overall on your train/air travel expense.

When in Venice, stop into Drogheria Mascari near the Rialto Bridge (and Albergo Guerrato) for some excellent candy or wine. http://www.imascari.com/ Ask for Gabriele who speaks excellent English and tell him John Mascari from Maryland sent you!
