Still a lot to see in Rome, but if you want a more laid back experience, Sorrento would fit the bill

If u Have seen all of Rome with tour then consider Hadrians Villa nr Rome Termini airport. We were delighted to stay here and discover roman emperor Hadrian. We stayed 2 nights in adjacent town and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Some vg restaurants and vistas too.

If u Have seen all of Rome with tour

I'd like to know the name of that tour!

I wouldn't make any firm plans. After 17 days, you might be "toured out". Will your tour go to Ostia Antica? That could be a relaxing day trip. You may see on the tour in Rome that you'd like to explore more in depth. You could also visit the Jewish Ghetto. I'm linking to Walks of Italy because we have taken three tours by them; two in Florence and one in Rome. Again, you might be toured out by then, but we found their tours to be well worth the cost.

After 17 days of changing hotels every other night on the Best of Italy tour, you may wish to stay put in Rome for the remainder of your visit. There's so much to see in Rome and the surrounding area, such as nearby Ostia Antica and EUR, that you could easily fill 3 additional days. If you do want to get out of Rome and since you'll have already visited Orvieto, the suggestion to stay in Tivoli is worth considering. Note that Tivoli (where Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este are located) is east of Rome, so it's on the opposite side of Rome from FCO airport. That said, your hotel can probably help you arrange transportation directly to the airport on the date of your return flight.

Day 15: A Walk Through Caesar's Rome
We'll drive straight to Rome today and spend the afternoon uncovering the heart of the Eternal City. A local guide will take us through the larger-than-life Colosseum; the birthplace of Ancient Rome, the Roman Forum; and the awe-inspiring Pantheon. This evening we'll enjoy a floodlit dolce vita stroll, soaking up the city's evening ambience at the lively campos, classy piazzas, and splashy Trevi Fountain. Sleep in Rome (2 nights). Bus: 2 hours. Walking: strenuous.

Day 16: The Vatican Museums
Today we'll focus on Renaissance (Catholic) Rome. At the sprawling Vatican Museums we'll visit what seems like a limitless collection of treasures as we make our way to one of the world's most famous works of art: Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. You'll have the rest of your day free to continue your modern-day pilgrimage at the greatest church in Christendom, St. Peter's Basilica, home to Michelangelo's sublime Pietà. Wander through this immense church, climb the dome if you're feeling energetic, and explore more of the Eternal City on your own. This evening, we'll have our final dinner together, sharing memories and toasting our newly made friends. Salute! No bus. Walking: strenuous.

Here is the tour itinerary for Rome. I am staying two more nights in the tour hotel. I have planned 4 scheduled activities for those 2 days: Twilight food tour of Trastevere, Borghese Museum, Walks of Italy Crypts and Catacombs, and Walks of Italy that covers Appian Way and aqueducts. It will be nice to stay in the same room for 4 nights in a row.

Vandrabrud,
I took this tour and arrived 2 days early and spent my time in Milan, then took a train to Varenna for the tour. I flew home the last day of the tour and knew I had to return to Rome! So, 5 months later, I returned for the Best of 7 Days in Rome tour and loved that so much! It gave me more immersion in just Rome! Of course, I hope to return on my own one of these days.

I like the fact that you have scheduled activities for yourself on your 2-day extension. The reason I think this is good is that, at least for me, at the end of a tour, I'm pretty tired and might be unfocused in my sightseeing and, thinking, I wish I had gone home, I'm tired. I felt this way in Vienna at the end of a tour. Maybe because I didn't schedule something of interest, I was wishing I had gone home. Also, it was July and in the midst of a heat wave, 95 - 98 degrees! The Trastevere food tour is one of my favorite activities in the Rome 7 days tour. Also, the Borghese Gallery is very special. Maybe you would like the Capitoline Museum as well. Enjoy!

Lori,
I think the other posters have given you some good suggestions. Enjoy the tour, it is fantastic!
