Advice required for Pompeii & anacapri visit.

Hi, I am visiting Italy with my family members in last week of May.
1. what is experience of Luggage store in Florence -about reliability?
2.I am worried due to tourists reviews about crimes in southern Italy. So I want to know the safest & reliable tour operator is Naples who will take us on tour safely for Pompeii & Anacapri-Blue Grotto.
Please advice.

Can't personally recommend any tours but I can tell you that you don't need a tour/guide for Capri. It's easy enough to do on your own. As you didn't include the location you're intending on doing it from, I will say that it is not a trip from Naples that you should combine with Pompeii; that's a bit too much in one day, IMHO. Where will you be coming from and where do you have to return to that evening?

I also wouldn't go to Capri JUST to do the Grotto. The boats can't get inside if the weather doesn't cooperate and seas are too high. Even when they can access the thing, the boats spend very few minutes inside to warrant the cost/time of the trip. I'd only visit the island if you have most of a day to give it and want to see more of the attractions there.

Here is the info for left luggage at Santa Maria Novella station in Florence. Nothing to worry about:

Are you only going to Florence for part of a day?

Re: question #2, I've visited both of these places but have never done either with a tour operator. Rick Steves has an excellent audio tour of Pompeii that I would highly recommend using. Because the entrance to the Blue Grotto is tiny, the people who take you there are small rowboat captains and I don't think there is much of an advantage in dealing through a tour operator.

Also, FWIW I've been to Italy twice and the only time I was the victim of a "crime" was in Rome and it was totally my fault (I had the flu and took an unlicensed cab like an idiot). Naples is chaotic, but IMO it's not any more dangerous than Rome.

I used Carrani Tours (Carrani Tours of Naples/ Sorrento/ Pompeii and Capri) and it was the most fascinating two days of my vacation - you can book through Expedia.Com if you like (Expedia)
It was a bit tough walking in Pompeii but SO WORTH IT! Also, after Capri they take you up to a lunch at Anacapri and the view is magnificent and, lastly, you will be very safe and in excellent hands.

Milind, are your arrangements set in stone? Honestly, yours is a very, very rushed itinerary that will leave you little time to see much of Venice, Florence or Rome at all. If this is your first time to Italy, I would have saved Naples/Capri/Pompeii area + Florence for another trip. With only 3.5 sightseeing days to work with, you really only have time for two locations at most, and I personally think even that is very tight.

Hi Kathy thanks for suggestion. I have visited Venice & florence Last time. My daughter is now studying in Architecture, so some points in Venice & Florence are only to see again from that angle. That is why 1 day each kept for Venice & florence. Thanks.
