We are booked on the Pompei Express/Frecciarossa from Roma to Pompei tomorrow morning (March 24th) with return service later in the day. These are not included on the list of trains with guaranteed service during a strike. I have heard that often the Frecciarossa trains are not affected as much even if other Trenitalia services are. Is this true? Should we just show up at Roma Termini and see if the train does indeed run? Or, any other advice on what to do? Pompeii was the number one item on the wishlists of all three of my kids for this trip (and pretty high up there for my husband and I)! We could possibly do it on Tuesday but 1) the direct service is not available that day (only on Sundays); 2) we will have to figure out luggage storage; and, 3) it will be a really long day from Rome to Pompeii round trip and then on to Venice where our accommodations for that night are booked. Thanks in advance for any help!
Our train travel on the Freccia Rossa from Firenze SMN to Milano was not on the guaranteed route list, so we went to the train station, took a number, waited a half hour, and the agent said our trip was very likely to be canceled. Most of the remaining guaranteed trips of the day were already full, but the TrenItalia customer service agent booked us in the same business class we paid for later in the day. The sad part is that we'll just miss a tour we paid hundreds of dollars for, but at least we're getting to our final city the night before we fly out of MXP. I'm hoping and praying the train and/or bus line from Milano Centrale to MXP (Mapensa Airport) is not affected by any strikes. I don't know how to figure that out.
My rec would be to book another day or skip it. It has seriously impacted train travel even now.
Did you make to the train this morning? I had the same train, but purchased bus tickets instead. On my return from pompeii at the train station, the attendant said there has been no train running at all the whole day and I could claim a refund. But then live timetable link they send out in the email shows all train were on time. Now I'm confused as to who's right. Could I still claim refund on both tickets?
I noticed on the Trenitalia app the night before and the morning of that some trains were showing as cancelled but ours was showing scheduled and platforms were then assigned. So, we decided to go on to the station and see for ourselves. Indeed both the departure and return trains ran as scheduled! We were glad that our day went on as planned but I could have done without the now unnecessary stress leading up to it, lol!
