My family of four will be picking up a rental car in Venice on a Saturday. What is the easiest place for us to pick up a rental and drive out of Venice without too much trauma (!)? It doesn't seem like schlepping with luggage back to the airport to get the rental would be appealing. The following Saturday we will be driving from near Siena to Rome. Would it be easier to take the coast route and drop off at the Rome airport (before heading into the city) or to drop off at the train station? I've read the train station is relatively simple but that description was probably posted by more intrepid travelers (and drivers!) than us! The alternative to all of this is to take a train to Tuscany and pick up/drop off within Tuscany, but it tickets will add expense and time to both days. Many thanks in advance for your insights.
