Advice on place to go

We have a 1-week side trip (arrive Friday morning, leave next Friday morning) from Paris. We can do Italy or Switzerland. From the places and things to do, Italy seems to be a bit rushed. We also have a 2-year old to keep happy.
I am considering three options -
1) Fly into Rome Sat morning, Mon evening train to Florence, Wed afternoon to Venice, Back from Venice Fri morning.
2) Skip Rome, fly into Florence, see Pisa and CT - 3 days; Train to Venice for 3 days.
We can do Rome only on a subsequent trip.
3) Skip Italy this trip and do Switzerland - it seemed smaller and easier to do

Any suggestions?
Does either country offer anything special that will interest a 2-year old? Which is easier to travel with a toddler?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The big issue, in my mind, is travelling with a 2 year old. I love Italy, but places like Rome, Florence and Venice offer a hustle and bustle that a 2 year old may not find all that appealing. I think I'd opt for a more relaxing stroll around Lake Lucerne in Switzerland where you can enjoy the mountain view and your child can enjoy an occasional duck.

Not to gang up, but I side with Dick. A one week blitz tour with a 2 yo doesn't sound like fun for parent or child.

Hmm.....I seem to be warming up to the idea of Switzerland. Sorry Italy, next time.

Thanks Bob and Victor for your opinions.
