We will be flying into Milan on Sept. 9 and then flying to Palermo on Sept. 14. We're trying to figure out how to spend those 4-5 days in between and are torn between Cinque Terre (or somewhere else along the coast, like Levanto or anywhere else in that area, or head over to Parma or nearby instead, then back to Milan for our flight. We would love feedback! We have been to Bergamo quite a bit, Milan, Bologna, but nowhere else in that part of the country. Dimmi!
Or if you've not explored other parts of Italy, how about visiting Venice (or Florence or Rome); they're easily accessible from Milan with high speed trains. Venice would offer "coast", but with a very different feel.
Thanks. We have been to those places and are more interested in either the coastal area west of Spezia or exploring Emilia Romagna this trip.
Emilia-Romagna is great - Parma, Modena, Ferrara, Mantova are all easy to reach from Milano, even easier from Bologna. If you want an overnight, I suggest Ravenna if you haven't been there.
If you're interested in "an Italy less visited" but not "less interesting," Emilia Romagnia is perfect. I didn't like Bologna, but Ferrara, Parma, Modena and Ravenna are all great.
Thanks - I think we'll head over to Emilia Romagna.
The lakes (Como, Maggiore, Garda, Lugano, Iseo) are near and the Alps are too.
