My husband and I are participating in the Scicily 11 day tour after 3 weeks in Italy. We will be traveling from Naples to Palermo and would like to take the overnight ferry. It looks like there are several options. Does anyone have a recommendation about the best ferry to take? Are the ferrys safe?

I have taken the ferry many times, they are mostly car ferries. All companies are about the same. The last few years I have found airfares cheap enough to fly rather than take the ferry, cost wasn't much different.

I believe the ferry companies work together. When I took one as part of an older Sicily tour itinerary, I slept very well in the cabin and did not even hear the (loud) announcements that we had docked. However, I think that most of our guides now also fly; see www.skyscanner.com.
