Advice on buying 1 or 2 separate train tickets - Como to Parma

Hi, I will be going from Como to Parma. Does it matter if I buy a ticket from Como to Milan and then for another ticket from Milan to Parma versus buy one ticket with a change in Milan? It seems like I have more options if I buy 2 separate tickets. I fear what happens if my train from Como to Milan is delayed.

You can buy those separate.
The first leg is a regional train and you can just take one that will give you more time to make Milan to Parma. Those never sell out and are fixed price.

Thanks for your advice, Jazz+Travels. Are there any downside in buying the tickets separately, other than the price?
