Advice needed on visiting Florence's Duomo in the afternoon with an evening dome climb

I am struggling to wrap my head around how to best plan my visit to Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. I'm hoping to visit the Duomo on the afternoon that I arrive in Florence from Rome (estimated to arrive around 12:30PM-1:00PM). I am looking to purchase a Brunelleschi pass to climb the dome during the 6:45PM - 7:30PM time slot for the lighting and hoping the crowd will clear up a bit by then. However, I see that the church itself closes at 3:45PM. Would I still have access to the free part of the church after my dome visit with the pass? If not, if I arrive around 2:30PM to the church, would that give me enough time to explore the museum and the church before my dome climb?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Following this thread as my family and I are arriving to Florence today for 3 nights. It sounds like a great idea to be outside on top of the Duomo at sunset. Is Sunday evening a possibility?

vsinayuk, here are the hours for the individual pieces of the duomo complex:

Entry/exit of the dome is from an entrance separate from and outside of the interior of the church.

Unfortunately, it looks like tickets for the dome are completely sold out for today through Monday.
