Help! Having a tough time deciding how to get from Corniglia to Venice on Sunday June 30. Option:
1. Trenatalia5.5 hours, 4 train changes some with very short connection times (12 minutes in La Spezia??), good departure/arrival times, expensive (97 Euro!! if buy now) and if it's on strike, do we lose our purchase? 2. Italotrenohas a fast train from Florence to Venice, 2.5 hours, great price (21 Euros) But then we have to figure out how to get from Corniglia to Florence S.Maria train station. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I did research Trenatalia option, but the timing isn't optimal and once again, there is a very short connection time in La Spezia (5 minutes!!). Also, not all regionale train schedules are available this far in advance. 3. Is there an alternative way to go from Corniglia to Florence? Or Corniglia to Venice?
Trenitalia will give you all the possible options. 12 min. connection is plenty, you aren't dealing with airplanes. Get off the train, get on the next train when it arrives, often on the same platform. Getting on a train takes seconds, in fact in most stations trains stop only for 1 minute or 2 max.
Going to Florence will require a change in La Spezia and Pisa. To go to Venice from Corniglia there are basically 3 routes, depending on the time of day. One is via Genoa-Milan, one is via Spezia, Pisa, Florence and one (not as frequent) via Spezia, Parma, Bologna. Look at the trenitalia schedule and decide, 5.5 hours is about right no matter which route you use.
