So I realized I had not made our final night hotel reservation (a rather major oversight on my part) for our upcoming trip and I wanted some advice. We land in Rome (from Catania) at 13:00. We fly out of Rome the next day at 9:50. Both are at Fiumicino. We will have spent three days in Rome earlier in the trip and will have seen the major sights. Would it be crazy to stay near Ostia Antica and tour it for a couple of hours that evening? It’s a sight we would really love to see but doesn’t really fit in earlier in the visit unless we want to cut out something else. Plans for earlier in Rome include St. Peter’s, the coliseum and Forum, aqueducts and the Appian Way, and a food tour. My understanding is that Ostia Antica is relatively close to the airport but we would have to rely on taxis to get around (I think).
We have two boys ( 11 and 13) so a romantic dinner in Rome isn’t really in the cards and I’m sad at the idea of “wasting” that whole day with travel. If you have another idea of what we could do/stay let me know!
