Hello,
Renting a car from Lucca to get to Montepulciano. We will use it for several days there before heading to Venice. We want to take the train to Venice. I don't want to drop the car at the Chiusi train station because it brings us too far SW before heading NE to Venice.
I don't want to drive into Florence with the rental. Any advice?
Looking for a drop off near a train station that will take us to direct to Venice.
I'd like a pretty clear shot to Venice instead of bus, train, train, etc.
Thank you.
Arezzo? Regional train to Florence, change there for a fast train to Venice (make sure you book to Venice Santa Lucia).
If you want something with no changes at all, but not Florence, it would be Rovigo ( some trains), Bologna, or Padua. The fast trains make very few stops.
Option 1:
Drive to Chiusi (30 min). Return the car and walk to the station (less than 10 min from Europcar office, or 2 min from Hertz or Avis offices)
Regional Train Chiusi to Firenze SMN: 2 hours
Freccia Train Florence to Venice: 2 hours
Option 2:
Drive to Florence: 1.5 hours
Find the Garage Europa (Hertz or Avis) or Garage Excelsior (Europcar) without getting lost or getting a ZTL fine: 0.5 hours.
Walk to the SMN station: 15 min
Freccia to Venice: 2 hours
Option 3:
Drive to Arezzo: 1 hour
Find Europcar or Hertz: 0.5 hours (but Avis is in front of the station)
Taxi to the Arezzo station: 0.5 hours (or 5 min walk if Avis)
Regional Train Arezzo to Florence: 1 hr
Freccia Firenze-Venezia: 2 hrs
Option 4:
Drive all the way from Montepulciano to Piazzale Roma in Venice: 4 hours.
If I were in your shoes, it would be either option 1 or option 4 for me.
If I had to drive all the way to Rovigo or Padova, then I might as well drive to Venice.
