Adventures needed for trip to Riva del Garda & Dolomites

My sons (12 & 16) and I will be staying five nights in Riva del Garda before driving to Venice. Looking for adventures (paragliding, canyoning, beginner via ferrata, zip-lines, easily-accessible hiking, etc). Will have a rental car, and although Riva isn't too close to many of the sights I want to see in the Dolomites, we'll probably end up doing a couple long day trips. Might also incorporate some of this into the drive to Venice.

Also looking for an easy low-impact opportunity to get up in the alps via cable car and short, beginner hiking. Do you know of any areas with big wow factor and easy accessibility? Not handicapped, but short distances and minimal elevation gain.

Please provide any "must sees" and tour operators/guides you've had experience with.

Thanks

I recommend that you base yourself in the Dolomites. Look at Ortisei. Lots of adventures available.

I agree with Suki. Riva won't have the magnificent scenery of a true Dolomite location. the Val Gardena or Val di Fassa or Val Badia are better choices with just what you want. Try Ortisei, Santa Cristina, Selva (all three in the Val Gardena), La Villa Stern, San Cassiano, Vigo di for Canazei. Many others to choose from, but these standout, IMO.

From Riva del Garda is it only 25 km down the lake to Malcescine. There you will find a rotating cablecar up Monte Baldo---an ascent of several thousand feet with lovely views of the lake.

At the top (which is fairly flat) there are paths for easy hiking and also mountain biking, with a guide if you want to send the boys on a little adventure.

I agree that Riva isn't the ideal home base for exploring the Dolomites, but this part of the trip is a compromise with others and that's where we will be staying. We'll just have to spend more time driving than we'd like.

Thanks for the suggestions and here's another I'll be researching: Strada delle Gallerie.
