Hi, My spouse and I will be going to Sicily in early May, 2022. (Yes, I have all the required Covid certificates and masks.) I'm wondering if most sites now limit the number of visitors by imposing timed entry tickets that must be purchased in advance. I'm interested in the sites/museums/churches in Palmero, Siracusa, and Taormina, as well as the museums/ruins in Agrigento/Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale. I know that for many places I can book in advance online, but is that really necessary? Is it possible to just get same-day tickets for immediate entry? TIA.
I would check on the website for each site.
I went to all the places you're talking about this past summer. I only bought advance timed tickets to the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. That was because when I tried to walk up and buy a ticket they were sold out for the next few hours. In Siracusa, I bought tickets for the Parco Neopolis and the Museo Archeologico. I believe last summer their policy was that advance tickets were required. In Taormina I bought everything on site. The Valley of the Temples I bought on site and I made a reservation for the Villa Romana. Who knows what their policies will be this May? Most of those policies were from when they reopened after their first Covid lockdown. I will say that I noticed while traveling all over Italy last summer that the policies listed on websites were often not enforced at the door, meaning, most people were able to buy tickets on site even if the website said you had to make a reservation.
Very helpful. Thanks, Bill.
