Advance tickets for Florence

HI, I want to prepare ahead for March 2022. When can I reserve tickets for museums in Forence and when can I buy train tickets from Rome to Florence. How many weeks before arriving.

For the Uffizi Gallery, two months. It's possible that you can buy tickets further out, but I've heard it's best to buy at least two months out to secure a reservation.

James, the Italo website is showing ticketing availability from Roma Termini to Firenze S.M. Novella through Jan. 11th so currently 3 months availability for their trains. They compete with Trenitalia for high-speed rail service, and have nice carriages.

There is also a national timetable reboot around mid-December and June every year. While current schedules usually don't change much, if at all, booking ability leading up to those dates can be limited if wishing to ticket very far in advance. I'd look again at BOTH the Trentialia and Italo websites closer around early December, maybe even earlier. I seem to remember Dario (one of our Italian experts) posting that schedules for the high-speed trains - which is what you'll want for Rome>Florence - are often loaded before those mid-Dec and Jun dates, and are accurate until the next re-boot date. Once posted, you should also be able to buy them at least 120 days in advance. Dario, Roberto, Ken.... Please correct if in error?

Tickets: the b-ticket website is the official ticketing vendor for many of Florence's museums. It's nice to have them in one place for easy reference of open/closed hours and days, ticket prices, etc.!!

(Edited to add: oops, I see Gerri helpfully provided that link while I was banging away; sorry for the redundancy!)

If your trip is next year, I'd just keep an eye on ticketing for the museums you are most interested in? The Uffizi, for instance, is currently selling tickets through Dec. 31 - so more than 2 months in advance - but things could change going into next year's high season.

Nothing to correct, you have properly described how it worked B(efore) C(ovid): first they load the new schedules of the cross-border EC trains, then the high speed Freccias and the local Regionale that can't sell out come last.

Italotreno's choice to publish their schedules up to January 11 seems to imply they believe there will be no more lockdowns.

You're welcome James! And thank you very much, Dario, for double-checking my info. Whew. COVID has thrown so many wrenches in so many procedures over the past couple of years that I have to check myself all the time in case something is new and different! It's very nice to have you as an "on the ground" resource. :O)
