Any recent experience with purchasing timed entry tickets vs upon admission for the Capitoline Museum or Gallerie Nazionali? Our last vist was pre covid and it was not a problem to buy tickets at the door. Is that still the case?
You shouldn't have a problem at the Capitoline Museum buying tickets at the door. I've never seen its ticket office crowded.
last Fall there was only a short line at the Capitoline Museum. Incidentally if you want the audio guide you rent it at the same time you buy tickets, not from a separate desk as in many museums.
We went to the Capitoline and Gallerie Nazionali last October and had not problems buying tickets at the door. There were no lines to speak of. Enjoy!
Thank you for your responses! Happy travels!
Just checking when are you going to be in Rome? Usually the Capitoline Museum would have no lines, but between Christmas & NYE 2023 there was a long line. IF you do buy tickets ahead of time, (as of last December), check where the tickets are 'exchanged' for a paper ticket, yeah go figure, it's a few 100 yards down the road from the museum. And while you're there, walk past the mounted horse statue down to the right between the museum buildings for a wonderful view out overlooking the Roman Forum. And there's an even more birds eye view from the cafe at the top of the museum.
