Advance Purchase Tickets for Galleria Dell'Accademia Florence

We are so confused. I purchased timed entry tickets for Accademia through their website, which must be picked up at a window at the museum. From a previous closed thread in this forum, it appears that the timed entry ticket purchased directly from the museum does let you skip the line and go straight to security, but is there a line to pick up your pre-reserved timed entry ticket? Do you have to arrive earlier than your assigned time to wait in line to pick it up? Or should we have purchased "skip the line' tickets from a private company?
Thank you!

I don't know exactly what the ticket pick-up procedure is at the Galleria, but I am certain that a ticket purchased directly from the museum is not inferior to those misleadingly-labeled "skip-the-line" tickets offered at an unnecessary mark-up by third parties. In some situations (I don't know whether it's an issue in Florence), third-party purchases turn out to be fake tickets. The line you are skipping is the ticket-purchase line. Anyone with a ticket gets to skip that line.

I'm sure any line to pick up a physical ticket will be really short. Someone who has been to the Accademia reasonably recently will be able to reassure you tomorrow.

I’m glad I saw this because I’m supposed to be there tomorrow morning. I’ll let you know what I find out. I wasn’t able to figure out the site to get tickets for the Donatello exhibit so figured I’d miss it, but I happened to be passing the museum today and just walked, bought a ticket and wandered through, practically alone. It was amazing to get up close to so many works of art, and I’m not even a huge art fan.

Thank you both for your prompt replies. KRS, I'll look forward to hearing what you learn tomorrow. Greatly appreciate it. Have a wonderful day in Florence!

The most recent time we've been to the Accademia was 2019, but from what I remember that we did not wait in line to pick up our tickets - we were able to go straight in to a desk that was dedicated to pre-purchased tickets. Just showed the agent our reservation number and she handed us the tickets. We then did need to go through a security line, like everyone else, but because the bottleneck is at the ticket-purchase counter, the security line moved quickly and did not take us more than 5 minutes go get through.

When I was there in December, I picked up my pre-purchased tickets at the booth directly across from the museum, waited in a short line at the museum for my entry time (designated pre-purchased, I think), and entered the museum (through security) without a problem. This is a routine that I've gone through many times. I'd recommend arriving 20 minutes or so before your entry time to pick up your tickets. I've never had to wait long, but you never know.

Agreed with everyone above, and as an additional note, if you've also purchased advance tickets for the Uffizi Gallery, you can pick up both at the same time, from either museum!

This morning I had a timed entry ticket for 9-9:15 for Accademia. I got there around 8:45 and was the first person in the timed entry line. A gentleman who worked there looked at my email, wrote down my info, then brought me both my tickets for Accademia and Uffizi (I got a late afternoon entry there). It was as easy as it could be. Also, because I was the first person in, I went straight for David while everyone behind me wandered more slowly, so I had him all to myself for several minutes. It was incredible!

Wow! Sounds like a perfect experience, @KRS. Thank you so much for sharing. We feel really good about NOT purchasing skip-the-line tickets and everyone's feedback has been so helpful!

We just returned last friday from Italy and the process was pretty easy. We 'purchased' our tickets online a couple days before, walked the morning to the Academia (about 20 minutes before our time). We must have had 'tourist' faces because one of the volunteers/workers there asked if we had tickets - I showed them our emailed receipt on my phone and she went inside a small room directly across from the entrance and brought back our tickets for both the Academia and Uffizi. Then, handed us off to the gentleman handling the gate, who placed us in line. Checked our passports vs. our covid vaccination cards and away we went. Pretty slick, honestly.

I went to the Uffizi about a week and a half ago. I'd looked at the website several times and seen that there were same-day tickets available. I got to the museum around 11, waited in the regular ticket line for about 10 minutes. There was a separate place to pick up reserved entrance tickets, didn't see anyone there. Now there aren't many tourists anywhere. But I'm told that in a week that's expected to change a LOT, basically from Palm Sunday . . .
