Adriatic Coast destinations

We have been to Italy &/or Sicily 3 times, but never to the east coast. We are planning a trip to the Apulia region in either the Spring or Fall of 2018. We like to spend at least 6 weeks when we go. Does anyone know good Adriatic coastal places to stop from Abruzzo to Emilia-Romagno? We like the smaller and less touristy spots, but realize that on the coast there will be plenty of tourists, just trying to find smaller places.

Outside of the school break period (late June through end of August), all those coastal destinations will be mostly deserted. So don't worry about crowds in spring or fall.

I don't know much about the Abruzzo Coast, but the Marche are a beautiful region. On the coast proper, I recommend Grottammare, Sirolo (and the Mt. Conero park), and maybe Ancona and Senigallia.
A bit in the interior, there are lots of choices. Corinaldo is the most famous beautiful village, but there are many others: Cingoli, Sarnano, Gradara, etc.
Of the cities, Ascoli, Macerata, Urbino, are all great.
The famous grottoes of Frasassi might be another option.
But just Google MARCHE TURISMO or BORGHI DELLE MARCHE and you can probably find a lot of stuff.
In or near Romagna, San Marino, San Leo, Forlì, and Ravenna, are good options. The beaches will be empty that time, but Rimini and Riccione should have some souls hanging around.

We are travelling in May to some of the area you mentioned. We are doing the Pulgia region first Matera, Lecce, Polignano a Mare
Alberobello then up the coast to Ascoli Piceno ( a bit inland) then to Senigallia.

Even though the other poster mentioned June -no crowds It can be very hot in these regions suggestion would be May.

Pesaro is another nice destination on the Adriatic with the advantage of excellent day-trip destinations by train or bus within an hour: Rimini, Urbino, Ancona, Gradara, and others. Once the summer beach crowd leaves, it becomes a pretty tranquil city. Staff in the Tourist Office are very helpful.
