We are on Medicare now, with an AARP supplement. Medicare does not cover us outside the US and its territories. AARP picks up (after $250 deductible) 80%, with a lifetime benefit of $50,000. Can anyone reccomend any other travel health insurance that we should consider?
If you are in Italy and you get sick and need to go to a hospital, it's free!!! It's not like here in the States.
It's free for Italians not Americans. Also, should you need evacuation back to the US, the Italian Govt. isn't going to pickup the tab for that.
I use www.travelinsure.com whenever I travel outside the US.
Check out Travelguard.com. You can call and talk to a representative they cover travel and have some backup health insurance. We didn't need help in Italy but did at the Amsterdam airport clinic. My husband got an ambulance ride, EKG, blood test, and about 20 minutes in their emergency room. Cost us about $50. Thankfully that was the extent of all the medical help we needed so I didn't even submit it for claim but it was reassuring to have the policy just in case.
Thanks, Denise. I appreciate the feedback, Kaaren
We recently purchased a supplemental medical policy for son traveling overseas and ourselves (will join him next week). There is a website called squaremouth.com that gives many options and you can compare various companies. They will give you online quotes. We went with a company called Seven Corners.
Well, when I was in Italy 2 years ago and had to get to a hospital because of dehidration, there was no charge at all!!!
