Additional stop between Sorrento and Rome

Looks like I’ll have a couple days after my time in Sorrento/Amalfi area before returning to Rome in late October. Wondering if there are any recommended places to spend a day or two that might be relatively on the way (or not more than 90mins out of the way). It doesn’t need to be a tourist attraction, just trying to find a nice town to stroll about that may be a good change from the Amalfi Coast. Could even be heading into Calabria etc as long as it’s on a train line.

Usually I’d consider Naples but I’m thinking during Covid that may be too busy and crowded for my comfort level.

Salerno is much smaller, and gives you access to the amazing temples at Paestum.
There are several pleasant towns along the Cilento coast, Agropoli and south.

Caserta. Near Naples, there are some rural attractions (which I haven’t been to yet) like the cave of the Cumaean Sybil and (is it?) Virgil’s tomb.

I have no Covid information on Naples, but mask compliance is much higher in New York City than in the wealthy NJ suburbs I’m in every day. Current Covid rates are also lower in NYC. I’m reporting a personal observation relating to the OP’s concerns, supported by NY Times figures, not talking politics.
