Has anyone found a good plan to add 3-4 days in Switzerland to an Italian tour.

Sandra, I add either pre or post-tour travels to my tour every year. It's very easy to do. It would help to know which tour you're taking and which locations you want to visit in Switzerland. Of course, using open-jaw flights is always a good idea. Cheers!

I always fly into and out of Zurich on Delta. Then take trains down into Italy. YOu can see Lucerne, which is close to Zurich and I also stopped in a Swiss town, Locarno, along the lake on my way into Italy last year.
I don't do group tours. I go by myself with my kids and plan everything.
