Adding into the Village Italy trip- any suggestions?

We are planning on taking the village italy in 14 days this fall. We will end in lago d’Orta and would like to add on a few more days to a week. Any suggestions?
Could we travel to a city in Switzerland easily?

We stayed in Orta San Giulio a few years back, and took a day trip to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn. We had a rental car, but the driving through the pass was quite easy. You have to leave the car somewhere outside of the village though, as Zermatt is car free. I'm sure others will know many other locations in Switzerland that are easily accessible from the area.

I would head south to the Italian Riviera. Base in Genoa and day trip the coast.

Debdevero, I think I maybe didn't understand what you're looking for for your last few days. Are you looking for a large city in Switzerland that you could fly back home from, such as Zurich or Geneva? Also, are you going to drive there, or really asking about easy train connections from Lago de Orta? I said Zermatt earlier, but if you're looking for somewhere that you could get a flight home from, that's not really going to help you.

I stayed an extra night in Orta after my Village Italy tour and wished I had not. Really, if you spend the morning there and plan to leave after lunch that will be good.

Have you considered Milan? I did not allow enough time there and should have added a night or two to the one night we had there.

Transportation-wise, your guide will make exit arrangements for everyone so it will be easy to get a cab/shuttle/shared ride to Milano Centrale and take the train from there to your next destination. IF you do plan to take a train from MIlano you may want to purchase the ticket ahead of time if you get a price break that way. If not the guide will help you buy a ticket in Levanto as there is no ticket office in Orta San Guilio.

When is "this fall"?

If after the tour ending Sep 23, the choices of where to go would not necessarily be the same as would be useful for the tour ending Oct 28

I'm doing that tour in June. Doing 4 extra nights in Venice before the tour. Post tour - taking the train Milan to Florence for 4 nights - then train to Rome for 6. Ciphered on Milan, and about a dozen other possibilities. Decided that I since I had seen numerous villages on the tour - and had changed hotels about every 2 nights - I opted for longer stays and fewer hotels. Too subjective, and my ignorance is too great to actually give any meaningful recommendations. Don't know your likes or actively level. Can't see how you can go wrong.
