accomodations near Verona (Lake Garda) and Padua

Any recommendations for agriturismos, country inns, hotels or apartments on the outskirts of Padua and Verona? We want to base ourselves out of these 2 locations to see surrounding areas. Looking for comfortable place outside the city limits as we will have a car. Hopefully near some restaurants.

We stayed at Hotel Vega in Malcesine last summer and loved it. The rooms are good sized, especially by Italian standards, immaculately clean, modern and comfortable. Our room was twenty feet from the lake and the views were incredible. I loved the town itself as well. It's easy to walk around. We enjoyed visiting other towns at the northern end of the lake during the day and returning to our wonderful hotel at night. Many of the towns have old castles (Malcesine is no exception) and we also enjoyed climbing to the top of several and taking in the views. Just my two cents.

Waaay back in August 2007 our family of 4 spent a week in Apartment Fienile at the lovely agriturismo Ca'del Baldo. Our apt. was beautiful with a covered terrace and was once an old hayloft. It is run by a sweet gal, Roberta, and her husband, Carlos, who restored the property. They live in the beautiful yellow farmhouse attached to the former hayloft. ( www.cadelbaldo.com) It is right outside of the small village of Caprino Veronese at the foothills of Mt. Baldo. There is a convenient grocery store in Caprino to pick up supplies. From here we went to Verona several times (about a 25 min. drive) and it is very close to Lake Garda and the villages on the eastern side. Some of the villages on Lake Garda we enjoyed--Riva del Garda, Torre del Benaco, Bardolino, LaZise and Sirmione. One day we drove to Bolzano hoping to see Otzi the iceman at the museum there but the line was craaaazy long as it was August. Enjoyed Bolzano though. Stopped at Riva del Garda which is on the north side of the lake on our way back from Bolzano. Another day we drove to Mantova and went to the Ducal palace. Mantova, on the Mincio river, is very nice and untouristy. Coming back we stopped at, on Roberta's recom, Valeggio sul Mincio, where the best tortellini in Italy is she said. Borghetto di Vallegio sul Mincio is just outside of the town on the banks of the river and is charming. Roberta said once a year they put up tables on the Viscount Bridge (a road that passes through the ruins of a castle) which is just above Borghetto and they serve tortellini. As far as restaurants closeby Ca'del Baldo, we ate several times in LaZise at one of the waterfront restaurants and where ever we happened to be at the time. Buon Viaggio!
