Hi Shannon--I'm looking for the same thing so if I hear anything outside of this forum, I'll let you know. We thought by staying there we could travel one direction one day and the the opposite the next day. When will you be there? I'm going to buy Rick's book on this area soon. Marla

Rick's book has so many recommendations; that's a great place to start. And do start sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. I made my reservations 9 months prior to our October trip and still did not get my first choice. However we had a lovely apartment (although MANY steps!) in Vernazza. Also check Trip Advisor. Excellent source of lodging options, some are in Rick's book and many are not. Yes, TA is reliable. You can even reach out to the reviewers for more info. We like Vernazza: quaint, though busy during the day, it is very nice at night, and convenient to the other towns. They are ALL convenient to one another actually. The train is terrific!

We rented from Maria Capellini in Vernazza. She has two rooms - The Charming Room is located right on the harbor and does not involve lots of stairs. The Cozy Studio is up lots of stairs, but is very nice. In January of last year I tried to rent the Charming Room for mid-September. It was already booked. We stayed in the Cozy Studio instead. Giacomo & Maria were wonderful hosts. You can check them out on Trip Advisor...just google Maria Capellini.

I'll check tripadvisor. I love it and have booked the rest of the trip based on the reviews. Just ordered Rick's book on Cinque terre so by the end of the week I'll have decided. What about the other villages in CT? After we to there we head to the hill villages and I'm looking for suggestions there.

In July 2009 we enjoyed 4 nights in several of Francamaria's rooms in Vernazza. Our group had Rm 1 which has a wonderful harbor view, rm. 3, and the apt. which is listed as room 7. Rm. 3 and the apt. are a few steps down from rm. 1. There are very few steps and the location is great. Rm 2 is located right next to rm. 1 with a harbor view too. In 2006 we rented an apt. through Pizzeria Vulnetia that was right on the main drag above the pharmacy. It was ok but Francamaria's was much better. You can check out the rooms at www.francamaria.com Buon Viaggio!!

Just checked tripadvisor and Maria capellini was rated #2 of all B&B in Vernazza. She has one room for our dates and it is ony E85! I also checked on Camere Guiliano which is rated #1 and there were no rooms available. Have a little more checking to do but wil probably go with maria Capellini!

That's what I have been doing. Is using Trip Advisor and Rick's books.
Was trying to see if anyone knew of a hidden gem. I am having a difficult time finding availability for our dates in May and June.

Just talked to a friend who stayed in Cinque Terre but she couldn't remember which village--one of the middle ones! She said she went with trip advisor recommendations and the rooms were dingy and dreadfully small . . . Why can't this ever be easy???

Take a look at Edis rooms in Riomaggiore. They are a broker for rooms and have a variety available.

In October, 2002 we stayed in Vernazza at "Trattoria Gianni" in the room at the very top (I think it was 163 steps!) but with a gorgeous view. The room was fine, certainly comfortable enough but the bathroom was, uh, challenging. As I noted, that was in 2002 so improvements might have been made. In 2005 and 2007 we stayed at Locanda Il Maestrale in Monterosso and absolutely loved it. Very nice with a lovely terrace where had breakfast. In 2010 we stayed at Albergo Marina which we thoroughly enjoyed. The lovely lemon garden and the breakfast buffet were fabulous!

Now I'm looking at Albergo Marina in Monterossa and waiting for a reply. I got Rick's book today and have checked into several. So hard to decide. My hubby decided he wanted something a little nicer than what I had been looking at. How is your search going?

We got off the train in Vernazza (October) and were offered rooms by people at the station. We looked at one that was too small for five of us. We then went to the closest hotel to the water and told them what we needed. The man at the hotel called a woman over, who went out to the street and conversed with two other women. After about a minute they offered us an apartment at a decent rate. We were completely satisfied with it.

I stayed at a fabulous place called A Ca' DA NONNA. Basically a mother and her son rent out some rooms, in a great spot in Vernazza. The room we rented was a great studio room with a bathroom, mini fridge, desk and chair. Simple but very clean, in a great location, and for a great rate! 70-80 euros per night. I highly, highly recommend this place, and some of my relatives just stayed here and had a great experience also! Let me know if you have any questions!

We've been looking for a place with a room and have contacted probably everyone in the town of Vernazza and aren't having much luck with availability. We have 2 options but don't have our hearts set on them. We may switch towns but not sure we want to do that.
