Accomodations in Venice

Any recommendations for places to stay in Venice, October, solo female traveler? I prefer to be in Venice rather than the outskirts of town and would like to stay under 140 Euros per night. Thanks for any advice.

Margaret - After many years in Venice I would suggest - http://www.hotelcasanova.it/
My friends Franco and Stefano man the front desk - A nice FREE Breakfast - Located Directly behind The Piazza San Marco and easy walking to The Rialto Area - the price is a bit over your request;however, we're talking about Venice. If you prefer less expensive then check out - http://www.pensioneguerrato.it/ Located over in The Rialto area more reasonable in their pricing and still very nice . Just noticed that Steve, who is always on top of it made the same suggestion about Pensione Guerrato - WOW - great minds think the same - lol

Enjoy Venezia, Ciao, Greg

The HOTEL TIVOLI, near the Friari Church, is where I stayed when last in Venice. I had a single room with bathroom in the hall; breakfast included. There was an outdoor garden/patio with tables and chairs. Before that, I had stayed at CA' DEL DOSE. I had a single, ensuite room at street level. It is near San Marco and family-run, somewhat more expensive than the Tivoli, but possibly a better location (easier to find and closer to the "action.") The, ACCADEMIA HOTEL near the Accademia bridge and museum is another of my favorites for single rooms. These three places have rooms that are really single, not just a double room rented as a single. Venice doesn't have to be horribly expensive; it pays to reserve in advance.

my vote is also for pensione Guerrato. Roberto, one of the owners, who sits behind the desk will take good care of you. He is kind and will help you with directions, etc. There is a wonderful fruit/vegetable market every morning outside of the pensione. Mary

We've stayed at the Al Teatro B&B twice and it should right around your price cap. Great breakfast and ideally located near the La Fenice opera house. If you stay there, ask for the Amber Room which has a balcony overlooking one of the back canals. Nothing like listening to the serenading gondoliers right below!

In May 2008, I stayed at the Ca Centopietre (http://www.centopietre-venice.com/). I really enjoyed my stay there. It is located in Dorsoduro just about a 5 minute walk from the Accademia vaporetto stop. The B&B was very clean and comfortable and the manager, Carlo could not have been more helpful. I contacted them directly via email and got a better rate than was shown on their booking site. It should still be in your price range. I loved staying in Dorsoduro. It was still an easy walk to Piazza San Marco, but seemed to be away from the throngs of daytrippers.

Hi Margaret, another vote for Hotel Tivoli. I travelled solo to Venice in October, and loved this place. My room was tiny but immaculate, bathroom was right next door. I never saw another soul on my floor. Very quiet and safe, loved the Dorsoduro location. Good luck!

You can find evening reprive from the disneyland massive sized crowds by staying on the island of Lido, just a 15 minute vaparetto ride from Piazza San Marco. The boats run all day long like a train schedule. Lots of hotels and restaurants to enjoy, that's where we'll stay when and if (the crowds are insane) we return. That was during the summer though, it might be easier in Oct.
