Just get a copy of Steves Italy book. If you do not want to buy it, go to your public library and copy some pages. His recommendation include a map for location the hotels. Please give your price range in euro for what you think is moderate. Moderate has no meaning. What you think is moderate maybe expensive to someone else.

Lots of places in Ricks book will already be booked. We really like a B&B called Casa de in Florence.. It is not in Ricks book but is highly rated on Tripadvisor, read the reviews. The location is great, close to the Arno and one bridge down from Ponte Vecchio. We had the quad room but if you want two doubles they have several. In Cinque Terre do you have an idea which village you want to stay in?

We liked B&B Ai Tagliapietra in Venice. Well within your budget and well located. For Rome, we have rented apartments. VRBO.com is a reliable source, as is Cross-pollinate.com. The latter has B&BS as well as apartments. I would get these reservations made immediately. Sept and Oct are busy. We do our reservations 6 to 10 months in advance.
