Accomodation in Rome

Going to Rome, staying 3 nights in late September with my parents (I'm in my 30's, they're in their 60's.

Looking for a triple... safe, clean, not too expensive - yet not scary. Some "three star" places I'm researching seem more like 2 stars in all the reviews I read.

Looking for central Rome, close to everything. Any recommendations? Hotel or Apartment. Would like to stay under $900 total for 3 nights.

Thanks in advance!!

Angela,

Last May some friends and I stayed at Hotel Sonya (www.hotelsonya.it). It was in Rick's book, though he said it wasn't overly friendly. It was a very nice accommodation, with polite staff, clean rooms, free breakfast and internet access, elevator... we were extremely impressed. We slept in a room for four (one double and two twins) so I'm sure they'd have something for the three of you. It was about 5 minutes from the Termini station, and close enough to everything you'd want to see.

I don't know the price because our daughter paid, but husband and I stayed at the Hotel Lancelot in Rome and loved it. Very clean, very safe, very nice people, and it's a 5-min. walk from the Colosseum.

Our family of 4 stayed at Hotel Smeraldo for 3 nights(in Rick's book) on our last visit to Rome in July 2006. This hotel is in a very safe area and is a few minutes walk to the Campo Di Fiori where they have a wonderful market most every day. We had 2 double rooms next to each other and they were very small but very clean and nice--pretty marble on the floors. The bathrooms were small but nice. The crowning jewel of this hotel was the amazing air conditioning they had. I kid you not--it was so great that we got cold at night and we needed blankets! We did not complain one bit as when we returned during the day, very hot from our sightseeing, for a siesta I can't tell you how good that a/c felt. I honestly did not know that there was a/c like that anyplace in Europe! I know I have rambled on about this but we have had some pretty lame a/c or what they call a/c in Europe and it can still be quite warm there in Sept. We paid 100 euros per double room w/ breakfast in mid July.

Try Nicolas Inn, www.nicolasinn.com. It's a B&B so there's not a big lobby with bar but the rooms are large & nice and the owners are wonderful. You'll probably get better service here than you would at a hotel and the location near Roman Forum is excellent. The price would be less than your budget so you can treat yourselves to a very nice meal.

Try Caesar House in Rome. I booked directly through them and i believe it was cheaper. This is an amazing small boutique hotel. there are ten rooms.....you awake to croissants baking and breakfast brought to your room. It is literally by the forum and colloseium.....you walk out the front door and you can see them....They will do your wash for a very small amount....oike 6-8 euro's, all folded, etc. Amazing people who work there.....it is in an office building....but we would go back in a heart beat. Also have a great private guide if you want his name......email [email protected]

I just returned from Italy. In Rome I was in a triple with two other people. If you can get this room, you will love it. The hotel is Albergo Santa Chiara in Rick's book. Mention his name at booking to get this room for 250 a night. The room is #224. There is a separate area for one small bed and then another for the very large bed. There is a roomy bathroom. The BEST thing is this room has a huge patio!! We sat on it every night, enjoying our wine.
The hotel is right behind the Pantheon which is such a fabulous location. Our room was quiet. They offer an excellent breakfast buffet. They make reservations for you wherever you want...such an incredible staff. Great hotel!!
