My daughter and I are going to the lakes region of Northern Italy in July (lake Como, Lake Garda, etc.). We are looking for a nice, no frills place to stay (no large hotels please), that won't leave me broke.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Toni
Check out Alberghetto La Marianna - just do a google search for the website. This is a small hotel on Lake Como across from Bellagio. It only has 8 rooms and a great looking restaurant. I haven't been there yet (I'm going in October) but I searched and searched and found this. The hotel has nice Trip Advisor reviews. Good prices.
My daughter and I stayed in Sirmione on Lake Garda at the Hotel Marconi 3 years ago and I can't say enough nice things about it! It's right in the heart of this quaint little town which is built around a castle. It's small, clean, and has a wonderful patio and dock right on the lake. The staff was incredible and extremely helpful in dealing with the airport when our luggage was lost.
Here's a link to the hotel http://www.lagodigardamagazine.com/index.asp?lang=2&menu=72&ids=299. If this one doesn't suit your needs, the site is full of information about all of Lake Garda. We took the ferry and stopped at a couple of the other towns on the way up to Malcesine, where we rode the cable car up to the top of Mount Baldo for an amazing view of the Italian Alps. http://www.lagodigardamagazine.com/index.asp?Lang=2&Menu=2&Sub=265
Needless to say I loved Lake Garda and highly recommend it!
We stayed in Bellagio at Il Borgo Apartments - as per Rick's Italy book in December. Found Flavio to be very helpful and the apartment was very modern and reasonably priced. It was less than 100E for 4 of us.
I stayed at Villa Belvedere in Argegno and loved it. It's a small family run place and is right on Lake Como. From memory it was 130 Euro a night for a twin room which included breakfast. It is also one minute from the ferry stop which is really handy.
