We stayed in San Gimignano on the main square at La Cisterna. Had a gorgeous view over the countryside from back of hotel, and the room was fine. The town totally cleared out at night, so we weren't elbowing other tourists for dinner. The hotel wasn't terribly expensive—we always try to stay at or below 100 euros, though sometimes it's not possible.
