Looking for place for 4 (2 moms, 2 14yr old girls) in Venice in March. Could do quad room if not too cramped. Like renting apartments. Looking for moderate price, and would like a really cool atmosphere if possible! (whatever "cool" is, huh!)
We stayed at Hotel Flora and loved it.
Check out www.hotelalpiave.com. They have a Family Suite for 4 or 5 people for about 240 euros/night in March. The quad rooms are a bit less. They are a 5 minute walk from St. Marks Square.
We have used www.veniceapartments.org in the past with good success. these folks also get good reviews. www.viewsinvenice.com Some folks here also like www.vrbo.com
I can recommend this apartment - http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p333948 It is a two-bedroom/2 bath apartment very close to San Marco. We will be staying there for the Christmas holidays.
Debbie I looked at vrbo.com, vacationrentals.com and trip advisor. One of the apartments we tried to rent and couldn't suggested these links http://tinyurl.com/54f58n http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/planner/blp_venice_more_rentals.htm http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/listings/venice.asp We ended up booking http://www.thevenetianterrace.com/
The couple who owns the Apartment has been a HUGE help providing resources and suggestions for our vacation. On our last visit we stayed at Ca Angeli, they have a "family room" you might want to look at.
Here's another option, run by one of RS's favorite B&B's in Venice, Pensione Guerrato: Piccolo Guerrato
I just stayed (July 26 - Aug 3) in a fabulous two bedroom apartment in Venice. It was very comfortable for my family of four. It's about three minutes from Rialto Bridge on the St. Marks side and only about seven minutes to St. Marks. It is directly across from the entrance to the Goldoni Theatre, if you are familiar with Venice. The apartment name is "Ca' Goldoni". You can find the listing at www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/p426386 (although I found it on www.homeaway.com). The address of the apartment is S. Marco, 4607 Calle del Teatro.
I stayed at Locanda San Barnaba and the room next to ours on the top floor had a family of 4. I did not get a chance to look at the room itself. There was no elevator or resturant and I believe the hotel is actually listed as a bed and breakfast because of it. Nice breakfast and great location. I would recommend this place and will return.
In May 2010 I stayed in Albergo Doge with three other girls, and we each had our own bed. It was comfortable, had AC. I enjoyed the short walk to the Grand Canal and other sites in Venice, it was also fairly close to a little piazza/park where locals play with their kids. I did not book it myself, so don't remember the pricing, but I think it was reasonable.
Hotel Guerrini - Venice Why we love this hotel: Its cheap.
You walk to your room directly from the train station. Its 300 meters away. Also the town can be confusing to navigate. All you need to do is look for the Train Station signs which will lead you back to the hotel. It is off the radar of most travelers, so booking is usually not a problem. It is at the "Start" of Venice. You go through Venice to get to San Marco Plazza. And if you turn left heading in to town, you get to see the "real" Venice of the old Ghetto area with out any other tourists.
Hey Debbie Here are a few sites you can check out: freereservation.com cross-pollinate.com thebeehive.com homeaway.com doing your research will pay off in the end. we rented in san polo area and had a great time. enjoy venice
miss pupule
Definitely check out www.cross-polinate.com. In particular 'Ca' Riccio". They have an apartment available, and it is conveniently located nearby all of the major attractions, in the Cannereggio neighborhood. Reasonably priced especially for Venice.
In March you may be able to use my technique (don't think I'd be comfortable during high season). On the way to Venice (late morning - arrived late afternoon) we called for lodging. My normal call goes something like, "Buongiorno, parlo English? Good, I only speak a little Italian. I need lodging for five, two adults and three children for x number of nights, what can you offer?" "How much will that cost?" If it sounds good, I take it and let them know when I plan to arrive. I can't recall if it was the first place I called but Hotel d'Art was on my list. They offered an apartment for a very reasonable price (140 euros per night). It wasn't fancy but had two bedrooms, bathroom, a living room/ eating area and small kitchen - perfect for our family of five. I like the technique because it allows them to offer what they have and often at a great price (because it will go empty otherwise). Sometimes we get an apartment, other times two rooms. Obviously there is a risk of either not finding anything or not finding something you're satisfied with. To date, I've never gone homeless although I've stayed at some places (some Rick's recommendations) I wasn't too pleased with.
Sweet! We're going in March too....We're staying at Al Ponte Mocenigo. Comes highly reviewed!
I second Michaels post ...Pensione Guerrato: Piccolo Guerrato We stayed here last Sept during the regatta and had a fantastic time. What an awesome location....all locals ..best resturants...wonderful people work here and so helpful

I, along w/3 of my girlfriends, will be staying in Venice in what looks like a great apt. late Sept. I found the place on
truly-venice.com I think because of my delay in booking, we will find ourselves in the Cannaregio region as opposed to the center of the city, which is fine w/us. I will post about our experiences in 3 flats between Rome, Florence, and Venice.
