accommodations in Varenna

We will not have a car, and will be arriving by train in Varenna. Any suggestions about places to stay there. It seems to be very expensive even in April. Thank you.

Varenna is a lakeside resort town, so you can expect higher prices in April than a small non-touristy village inland away from the water. You can all to most hotels from the train station but it is hilly. We like Albergo Milano, but you may be able to find something less expensive by looking on booking.com.

Check out Villa Cipressi and see if it fits your budget. It is a lovely place on the lake and the restaurant is also good.

Tykeh--

I responded to your private message, but not entirely sure how to do it. Hope it worked.

We like Hotel Du Lac in Varenna, lakeside room with balcony. You could have problems finding accommodations at this late date. Good luck and have a great trip!

There are a variety of accommodations in Varenna in various price ranges. You might get some good ideas by having a look at the current edition of the Rick Steves Italy guidebook.

You could have a look at http://www.olivedo.it/en/ which is right at the ferry dock. It's an older hotel but I found it clean and comfortable. Hopefully that's still the same. I've also seen listings for the Orange House B&B but I don't know anything about it.

DuLac, Olivedo and Fro/Gio are all full. We are still trying others. Suggestions still welcome. Thank you.

The places others have loved the most are often those with the best value-to-price ratio and charm. They are likely to be the first ones to fill up. I'd recommend going to booking.com to see which places show availability. Not all rooms will be listed there, and some lodgings may not use booking.com at all, but it can help you find a place when the situation is tougher than expected. Watch cancellation policies carefully, because it's common for lodgings to offer more- and less-restrictive reservations and different price points.

Albergo Beretta is where we stayed. It was close to the train station, and I would choose it again.
