I have decided to make my home bases in San Gimignano and Assisi. That said would any of you recommend one over the other agritourismo, airbnb, B&B or hotel. we would be spending 3 nights in each place and definitely going to Siena on a Wednesday for the open markets
Have not stayed in San Gimignano, but this fall we are staying in the Brigolante Town Apartments. Rebecca also has an agriturismo if you prefer that.
We stayed at Villa Palagetto in San Gimignano in June. Great location, walking distance to town, very nice breakfast, pool, and the nightly dinners were the best meals we had in two weeks in Tuscany and Rome. Easy to get to Pisa/Lucca, Siena, and Florence, and beautiful countryside in every direction. Would go back tomorrow.
Villa Arnilu - San Gimignano
I stayed just outside Assisi at La Fornace in 2014. It was wonderful. It continues to be top-rated on TripAdvisor. Warm hosts, comfortable Italian rustic lodging, tasty breakfast, and option for a wonderful dinner at night.
In 2007 our family of 4 also stayed at La Fornace outside of Assisi in the 2 bedrms/2 bathrooms poppies apt and it was great! Have also stayed at several other agriturismi in Tuscany including Il Rosolaccio near San Gimignano www.rosolaccio.com This was also a lovely place to stay with a nice pool.
Janet, that's so neat! We were in the Poppies as well. Small world :) The brother and sister running La Fornace now must have been pretty young in 2007. When I was there, I remember something about a recent transition. Perhaps someone had passed away. I can't remember the details, but I'm glad to hear from another fan of La Fornace here in this forum.
Grazi, Grazi, These are all wonderful suggestions and I'm looking to all of them- actually waiting to hear back on a couple
It is a small world Jennifer! We so enjoyed our stay at La Fornace & were here on Ferragosto/Assumption Day on August 15. We went to Spello in the morning and in the evening the owner's held a wonderful bbq for all the guests. The food was fabulous and the best tomatoes we had ever eaten! Even our 2 sons thought they were awesome. I think it was all the salt on them and it brought out the flavor.
