Accommodations in Manarola

We'd like to take Rick Steve's advice on just showing up (first week of October) and asking in bars and restaurants about available rooms. Has anyone tried this? Also the guidebook says to shop around to see what is available and then choose. How does one do this courteously, without offending locals by not immediately accepting the first offer of an available room? Ideas? Experiences? Thanks!

We are staying in Manarola for 3 nights 2nd week of Sept. Rented a two room apt. through Arbaspaa. Reasonable rates, sea view. Less expensive than a hotel! Looks clean & comfortable which is all I require. You might want to check it out. Nice selection of apts. Buona fortuna!

October is still busy in the CT. Why wait and spend your time searching when reserving in advance is so easy online? We like Affitacamere San Giorgio in Manarola. Be sure to eat at Billy's!

Anne & Nick, I agree with Laurel. The C.T. can still be busy at the beginning of October, and there's no way I'd just show up and start looking for a place to sleep, especially hauling luggage. That's a waste of valuable holiday time, and there's always the possibility that either nothing will be available, or you might have to accept something that's "less than ideal". To provide an example, I usually start booking my favourite hotel in Monterosso in February or March, for travel in September. Even that early, I sometimes have problems getting a booking, and I've had to adjust my travel dates to suit their availability at times. Getting back to Manarola, if you have a "generous budget", you might have a look at www.torrettas.com/ (it's the best place in town). Happy travels!
