We have 3 days to spend in Cefalu at the end of March. Looking for recommendations for places to stay and any “ must see” things to do
When we were there we stayed at Hotel Alberi del Paradiso, Via Dei Mulini 18/20. It had free parking and we were driving. It’s 2km from the cathedral. The hotel had a free shuttle to take you into the historic center or pick you up to return to the hotel. We liked the hotel and the breakfast buffet. We also ate dinner at the hotel restaurant. It too was very good. If you decide on this hotel, ask for a room on the front of the hotel, or away from the kitchen. Our room was near the kitchen and we could smell all the food being cooked at breakfast.
The Duomo is a should see, and if you can walk it, take the walk up the hill to the park, castle, and temple. I got a sprained ankle walking around Caccamo castle, so couldn’t climb the hill in Cefalù. The historic center was easy to walk around and isn’t all that large.
We stayed at Blue Bay and were happy there, but they are located high above town, and a taxi was required to get to the town. There were a couple of nearby dining options and easy parking. If you don't have a car, though, staying in town would be a better option. If you are slow travellers or are looking for a couple of peaceful down days, Cefalu is a great spot. The RS walking tour covers the highlights nicely. The duomo is the must see in town. Otherwise strolling and eating are the preferred activities.
My wife and I spent four nights in Cefalù in October, staying at the B&B Cefalù in Blu in the old town about 5 minutes' walk from the sea front and cathedral and 10 minutes from the train station. We booked it through booking.com and were very happy with the accommodation. It was accessed through a small alleyway off one of the main pedestrian streets, so there was no noise to contend with. The host, who apparently spoke several languages, was often present and very helpful. The breakfasts were plentiful and tasty.
The Norman Cathedral is the centerpiece of old town. It's surrounded by shops with plenty of good restaurants nearby. The waterfront and beaches are fun, though I expect the weather might be a little cool for swimming, although it was fine in October.
The Museo Mandralisca was a pleasant surprise with a sizeable, if eclectic, collection of art and artifacts. Like everything in the old town, it's easy to access on foot and definitely worth a visit.
If you're in reasonably good shape, a hike to the top of La Rocca is well worth the effort for the stunning views over the town, the sea and nearby mountains.
Our time in Cefalù was intended for relaxation after completing the busy RS Sicily tour. It worked well for that. We traveled by train and would love to go back.
Thanks so much for your responses! We won’t have a car so staying in the center of town may work best for us.
