Any suggestions for B&B or budget, clean hotel with some character if possible in historical, central Florence? We are arriving in Florence by train in early January next year and are happy to walk to the accommodation.

I have stayed at Hotel Giappone in the past and was very happy with it. The location is terrific but you do have to make your way up quite a few stairs to get there (no lift). If that is not a deal breaker, I would look into it.
