My husband and I will be visiting Florence in October for 3 nights. I am interested in a bed and breakfast type inn on the outskirts of Florence. We don't want to drive in the city, so a location close to public transportation would be great. We usually avoid "hotel" type accommodations preferring quaint European type places to stay. Any suggestions? Thanks
Look at cross-pollinate.com. They have B&B's and apartments. Also look on Venere.com and tripadvisor. Many B&B's have reviews on tripadisor. I have used vrbo.com to book an apartment.
Hotels in Europe ARE "quaint European type places to stay" unless you pick a chain hotel.
We have stayed at the Dei Mori B & B twice. Great place, great location and Suzanne is a great hostess. It's walking distance from the train station and its on a quiet side street.

This B&B is in Florence but outside of historic centre, easy to come by car, with free and save parking for the guests. It is also easy to reach historic centre just walking near Arno River or taking public bus.

Hope it helps.
Thanks to all for your quick responses to my post. My intent in the posting was to note that I wanted avoid US style chain hotels. You have given me some great suggestions. I have already checked out a few and they are exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.
