I used arbaspaa.com to look for places - we actually are staying at the same place we stayed in 08...that being said, i think they do have some apartment rentals and such...

Olwen, It would help to know whether you have a preference for any one of the five towns? With three adult couples, I would suggest staying in Monterosso as it's the largest of the towns and therefore has the best selektion of Hotels, restaurants, etc. The other question is what price range do you prefer? You won't need a car there, as it's VERY easy to get around via the local trains or local boats (although they don't run if the seas are rough). As this is your first trip to Italy, I would recommend packing along a copy of the RS Italy 2012 Guidebook. It's a wealth of information and has lots of good information that will help your trip to go smoothly. You should be able to find a copy at Chapters in Orchard Park (I haven't been in West Kelowna for awhile, so not sure what bookstores you have there). There are some potentially expensive "caveats" to be aware of when riding the trains and Buses in Italy, so be sure that you're aware of those. If you need further details, post another note. For travel in mid-September, I would HIGHLY recommend getting rooms booked in the C.T. SOON, especially as you need three rooms!!! I've found that's usually a VERY BUSY time in that area (it was last year), and it could be a challenge to find a vacancy. I may be there again in mid-September myself, but still working on my plans. How long are you planning to spend in Florence, Siena and Rome? BTW, I was pleased to see that W.K. has resolved the issue of noise from Ice Cream trucks. Good luck with your planning!
