Accommodation for family of 5, Cinque Terre.

Hi from Down Under,

I'm after a Hotel or apartment in the Cinque Terre, preferably overlooking the water for a family of 5, August 2009. Any ideas? I love the look of Vernazza and have tried Marina Rooms already, but it's fully booked.

Many thanks,
Marie

The Hostel in Manarola is great and they have family rooms and sea views. Lots of fun for a family. Steep walk up the hill.

If you don't find a place before you go, you can always arrive in any of the 5 villages and find a room.

August may be more difficult, but I learned that I would want to look at it before renting it. I looked at 5 apartments before finding one which met my needs.

Thank you everyone. Seems alot of places are already booked, but I'll keep trying. Any new ideas really welcome.

Kind regards

Try contacting Edis Rooms in Riomaggiore (See Ricks book) they rent apartments that should work for you. Keep in mind that August is very busy as most of Europe, including Italians, are also looking for a holiday by the sea. Also significant is that most places will be looking for rentals that take the whole week, as opposed to a night or two.

Our family of five rented an apartment for a couple of days in Vernazza. We were there in October and arrived with no reservations. When we arrived there were a number of people offering to rent rooms. We looked at one place that was too small then headed down to a hotel on the waterfront and told them what we were looking for. A discussion between three women ensued after which they took us "50 meters" (if you haven't been to Italy, everything is "50 meters") to a nice two-bedroom apartment. It was comfortable and perfect for us. The view was only of a courtyard but we were happy with it and the price was very reasonable.
