Accommodation along Amalfi Coast

My sister and I (mid fifties but reasonably fit) are looking for a room that is clean, basic, safe in either Positano, Revallo, Amalfi and is reasonably priced. We are travelling in September 2008 and so far every place we look at seems way over our budget. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Julia from Australia

I have a couple of questions that might help. What is your budget? And, are you only interested in suggestions in Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi, or are you open to other ideas? (For instance, you might have better luck in Sorrento.)

We are definitely open to other suggestions and our budget is hopefully under Aust $150 per night but can stretch that a bit if we have to. Cheers, Julia

150 Australian Dollars is ~89 Euros. Il Nido, in the hills above Sorrento, gets rave reviews and has rooms for 100 Euros.

A couple of yrs. ago we found and stayed in a place--agriturismo Sant'alfonso in Furore--it was wonderful! It is so high above everything--the panoramic views are incredible. It was a little tough to get to (switchback roads) but well worth it. Google it, its around 70-90 Euros a nite. There are 10 rms. It used to be a nunnery or something, dates back to the 16th century. There's a little chapel there. I remember you had to walk down 150 steps, I believe, but they have a lift for your luggage. If you're in good shape, as you say, you ought to be able to do okay. Its really quaint, one of those "best kept secrets" and the food was wonderful. We went out to eat because we thought we'd get a better meal, but turns out we should have just stayed and eaten there. This place won't disappoint!
