Stephanie, would you consider an agriturismo in Siena? If so, the Agriturismo Marciano is fabulous. You can read the reviews on Trip Advisor but I highly recommend it. It's a unique experience and it was truly a highlight of our trip to stay there and partake in the optional dinners (which were to die for!!). The agriturismo is only 10-15 minutes from the city walls yet it feels very remote. Have a great trip.

I really enjoyed http://www.loggiatodeiservitihotel.it/ in Florence. What was awesome was that we received an upgrade of my wildest fantasy, a 2 story 2 bath room larger than my actual house, for 95 euros (it was at the end of November). IN Siena, we loved http://www.palazzoravizza.it/en. Once again, we were given a fabulous upgrade with views of the Tuscan hills that would make one drool. It pays to travel around thanksgiving!

Sheron:
How did you get to the Agriturismo----did you have a car? What if we plan on using trains/buses?

Hi, thank you to Kelly for the suggestions of places to stay and to Stephanie for starting this thread. We are just now figuring out our trip for October and the suggestions for Florence and Siena look perfect. Unfortunately the Florence hotel is already booked but we were able to book at Palazzon Ravizza. I'll let you know how it was when we get back, but I'm excited at all the reviews and fotos.

I second the suggestion of Agriturismo Marciano. Staying there and experiencing their optional dinners were one of the highlights of our trip to Italy last September. We had a car. I have read on Trip Advisor that some people used a taxi. It is a bit far to walk into Siena, though it appears that some people have done that too.
