Not too long ago there were several posts about people accessing their genealogical records in Italy, and it was said that those records can also be found online. I can’t find the posts. Next month I am going to Italy with a friend who’s family on both sides came from southern Italy and we would like to find any living relatives if possible.
Does anyone know the websites that I am referring to so that we may start the search?
This website has older records:
https://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/the-site/instructions/?lang=en
"In order to protect the confidentiality of personal data, registers of births at least 100 years old and marriage and death registers at least 70 years old are made accessible on the Portal."
Thanks very much!
Rachele,
After many years of searching, I was finally able to locate my grandmother's birth record using FamilySearch.org. You have to do some digging, but I finally found it! To make it even sweeter, I found it on her birthday!
Note: I found over my searching that there are lots of misspellings, dates slightly off, etc. You have to be patient and keep at it. BTW, all of my family was from southern Italy, too.
Good luck!
I'll report back, but I've just agreed with Bella Italia Genealogy to help me find older records in the Salerno area, and then find descendants still living in the area that we can meet with when we travel there this coming October. They are from Campania, speak English very well, and appear to be legitimate. We were there in 2015, and without a real guide it was very hard to make progress in any genealogical search, even with information I already had.
Crossing fingers!
